Where are the Canary Islands?

The Canary Islands are a cluster of islands in the Atlantic Ocean belonging to Spain, divided into two provinces: Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The Canary Islands consist of seven main islands (Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera) and six smaller ones (Alegranza, Graciosa, Montaña Clara, Lobos, Roque del Este and Roque del Oeste).

Location of the islands

Due to the fact that the Canary Islands are situated in such a way that a rather warm climate prevails here all the time, they are referred to as the Islands of Eternal Spring. The weather here is excellent all year round, with the warmest months being July and August. The southern part of the islands is one of the warmest, while the northern part is usually cloudy and rainy. Mountainous areas, on the other hand, cool down after sunbathing, hence mountain hiking is often recommended, which gives a bit of cooling.

Thanks to this, tourists have the opportunity to visit not only one, but all the islands. You can use land transport (buses and taxis), sea (ferries, hydrofoils) and air (planes). Sightseeing by these means of transport brings additional attractions and adventures, such as e.g. observation of animals in the water, or watching the landscape from a bird’s eye view.

Sights worth visiting

Each of the individual islands has its own charm and charm. The attractions in them are not only beaches, but also numerous monuments. For example, we can visit: in Las Palmas – the exotic Cathedral of St. Anna, Chapel of St. Anthony, the Columbus house and museum Casa de Colon, Plaza de Espana, the 16th-century El Salvador church, the Renaissance sanctuary of Nuestra Senora de Las Nieves, numerous museums, interesting streets and unusual buildings. When visiting individual islands, it is also worth seeing wonderful beaches, golf courses, water towns, aqua parks, skate parks, numerous restaurants, discos and entertainment venues.
